2024 has been a remarkable year for Borderless Dev Hub, marking a significant milestone in its journey to bring Web3 education and development to the forefront of Africa’s technological revolution. Over the past year, Borderless has cemented its role as a catalyst for change in the Web3 space, reaching over 8,000 individuals across the continent.
Through its diverse range of projects, educational initiatives, and strategic partnerships, Borderless has proven to be an indispensable force in shaping the future of Web3 in Africa.
The Borderless Developers Program, which launched in 2022, made exponential strides in 2024, impacting not just developers but also communities and institutions across Africa. The community’s efforts in fostering a strong Web3 ecosystem were evident in the launch of five groundbreaking projects, including a Web3 Learning Management System (LMS) platform, a media platform, and six Web3 contributor departments. These initiatives created numerous pathways for individuals to learn, collaborate, and thrive in the Web3 space.
Through consistent and targeted educational programs, Borderless was able to engage over 8,300 young individuals across various universities in Africa. The Hub’s efforts included onboarding new users to Web3, providing essential tools such as wallets and tokens, and guiding them through blockchain transactions. This comprehensive approach helped to demystify Web3, turning curious individuals into active participants in the ecosystem.
Strategic Partnerships and Community Growth in Borderless Dev Hub
The success of Borderless in 2024 was amplified by its strategic partnerships with prominent players in the Web3 space, such as Lisk, Arbitrum, and Gitcoin. These collaborations not only provided the community with valuable resources but also opened doors for developers to contribute to cutting-edge projects and get hands-on experience in building decentralized applications.
One of the standout achievements was the acceptance of a Borderless developer into the Arbitrum Stylus Blitz Program, marking the first time a developer from the Hub had reached such a prestigious milestone. This was a testament to the quality of training and development provided by Borderless Dev Hub and the talent that the Hub has nurtured.
In addition, the Hub sponsored a total of eight Web3 developer and public goods events in 2024, further strengthening the Web3 community across Africa. These events allowed developers to showcase their skills, collaborate on innovative projects, and participate in hackathons that brought out the best in the local talent pool.
Bridging the Gap with Public Goods and Hackathons
In 2024, Borderless also made strides in advancing the public goods movement within Web3, helping to onboard over 1,880 newcomers to platforms like Gitcoin and Giveth, where they participated in quadratic funding rounds. These contributions not only supported public goods but also fostered a culture of giving within the Web3 ecosystem.
The community’s commitment to public goods was evident in its sponsorship of over six contests and bounties, alongside the development of more than 26 products by its developers. These initiatives not only encouraged innovation but also provided practical solutions to real-world challenges, ensuring that the impact of Web3 was felt across various sectors.
The achievements of Borderless in 2024 were not just about numbers; they were about creating lasting change. With over $6,000 raised from quadratic funding rounds and a record 9.4 ETH in funding for OctantApp in its Epoch 5 round, Borderless proved that the community-driven approach to Web3 could yield tangible financial results.
As the year wrapped up, Borderless is looking ahead to 2025 with a renewed sense of purpose. With plans to scale its impact 10-fold, the Hub is poised to continue its work in educating and empowering the next generation of Web3 developers and enthusiasts across Africa. The journey is far from over, and the best is yet to come.
