After weeks of community anticipation and voting activity, the results for the Gitcoin GG23 Grant Ships competition are finally in.Six impressive grant programs competed for three guaranteed slots in the upcoming GG24 round. All participating rounds brought significant value to the Gitcoin ecosystem, but in the end, the final decision was left to GTC holders who cast their votes between May 12 and May 21.
Among the top three selected was Web3 for Universities, a community-driven grant round led by Borderless Dev Hub. This round is focused on advancing blockchain education across African universities, ensuring students, builders, and innovators have access to tools, funding, and learning resources as they explore career opportunities in Web3 and Public Goods.
Joining Web3 for Universities in securing a place in GG24 are:
- Regen Coordination ImpactQF: An impact-focused round that continues the momentum from Gitcoin’s GG21 Genesis Round. Spearheaded by ReFi DAO, GreenPill Network, and Regen Coordination partners, this round supports regenerative communities working to address local needs and drive real-world impact through Web3.
- Gitcoin Grants Garden: A campaign rooted in the Ethereum and Gitcoin open-source ecosystem. Building on early experiments in Conviction Voting and Gardens v2, this round stood out for its thoughtful execution and ambition to shape the future of decentralized funding.
While only three programs advanced, the remaining rounds also showed strong performance and community support. These honorable mentions raised funds, engaged contributors, and provided meaningful value throughout the competition:
- GoodBuilders Kickoff Round by GoodDollar: The start of a year-long initiative backing builders across various roles to drive adoption and utility for the GoodDollar platform.
- Token Engineering the Superchain: A round combining Quadratic and Retroactive Funding models to support the growth of token engineering within the Optimism and Superchain ecosystems.
- Regen Rio de Janeiro by GreenPill Brasil: A local-focused round supporting nonprofits in Rio with a track record of social, cultural, or environmental impact, in partnership with Fabulosa Lab and Regen Coordination.
With GG23 concluded, attention now turns to the next chapter. These three programs who didn’t advance can still apply for a spot in GG24. The selected rounds will move forward into GG24, equipped with renewed visibility and the opportunity to deepen their impact within the broader Gitcoin community.
