Byteonchain.news is proud to announce its newest strategic partnership with Kokonut Network, a leading open-source initiative focused on regenerative agriculture and syntropic farming.

This partnership aligns with Byteonchain.news’ mission to amplify innovation at the intersection of climate, technology, and decentralized ecosystems.

Founded on a commitment to open access and community empowerment, Kokonut Network has developed a modular framework that helps individuals and organizations design and deploy centropic farms tailored to local environmental conditions.

In this conversation with Alejandro Adon, we explore Kokonut Network’s open-source approach to regenerative agriculture, their framework for building syntropic farms, and their commitment to scaling impact-driven agricultural projects.

These Questions and Answers offer a snapshot of their mission, traction, and future plans.

Q: What are some of the biggest challenges Kokonut Network has faced in getting funding for projects as a public goods company?

Alejandro Adon:

Rather than obstacles, it’s really been about meeting the risk expectations of different stakeholders. We’ve received strong support from the community early on. For instance, our first article was published just two weeks after launch. Since then, we’ve been featured in podcasts and research on ReFi and regeneration.

However, institutional funders, like VCs or large organizations, evaluate risk differently from community-based programs like Gitcoin, etc. Our focus has been on building credibility and maturing to meet those expectations while still staying true to our mission.

Q: Kokonut has a strong open-source angle. What does that look like in practice?

Alejandro:

Our goal is to empower communities rather than control who gets to deploy a project. That’s why we’ve made the Kokonut Framework open-source. We released the alpha version recently, and we’re working on a flowchart and a model inspired by the Business Model Canvas.

The framework helps design and deploy centropic farms using local soil and weather data. It’s adaptable to different crops and geographies, not just coconuts. Every quarter, we stress-test the framework through our own projects and improve it based on real-world feedback.

You can check it out here.

Q: What’s the current scope of Kokonut Network’s projects, and do you have plans for expansion, especially to Africa?

Alejandro:

Absolutely. Our mission includes reaching and supporting communities globally. Currently, we have five farms: two active and growing, one launching this month (Kokonut Adelphi), and two more in the design phase.

Our target is 12 farms under management by 2025. One of those will be our first commercial-grade farm, optimized for ROI. Others focus more on impact, depending on size and crop. The flexibility of our design allows for both models.

We’re very open to collaborating across continents, including Africa. If the local conditions fit, the framework can be applied anywhere.
