The Base Batch Buildathon application window is closing soon, having been open since April 25, and will end on May 16, 2025. Developers and teams around the world are taking advantage of this Base Batch, a global online buildathon aimed at encouraging the creation of innovative onchain applications. This event offers participants the chance not only to build groundbreaking projects but also to receive funding, incubation, and international exposure.
What is Base Batch?
Base Batch is a structured three-phase program designed to accelerate the development of onchain technology:
- Buildathon Phase: Developers build and submit onchain applications during the event window.
- Incubator Placement: More than 50 standout teams are selected for specialized incubator programs.
- Demo Day: The top projects pitch their ideas to a panel of judges from Coinbase, Base, and partner organizations, competing for funding opportunities up to $1 million.
Supported by industry leaders such as Aerodrome, Farcaster, Uniswap Foundation, Ohara AI, and Virtuals Protocol, Base Batch combines expert mentorship with practical impact.
Buildathon Tracks and Rewards
Participants compete within specific categories tailored to emerging onchain trends, including: AI, stablecoins, mini-apps, entertainment, showcase, vibe coding, and DeFi. Winners in each track receive 1 ETH, incubator access, and invitations to Demo Day. Base Batch offers more than competition; it’s a community and growth opportunity. Regional prize pools reach up to 7.5 ETH, with winners gaining:
- Funding and incubation support to develop their projects.
- Promotion and marketing through Base’s social channels.
- A platform to present at Demo Day.
- Connections with a vibrant network of experienced Base builders.
Preparation for success
In preparation for this Buildathon, Base Africa held a dynamic workshop in Lagos preparing local developers for the buildathon. Charis, a community organizer involved in the event, reported strong engagement: “We had 80 registrations and 58 attendees, with teams forming and collaborations starting. The sessions included technical deep dives into Base development, Solidity smart contract training, and practical use of OnchainKit and smart wallets.”
Mentors encouraged builders to focus on straightforward, problem-solving apps that address local challenges. Participants engaged in live coding, networking, and Q&A with experienced founders, including Toochukwu Okoro, whose AI-powered crypto-to-naira app, Azza, now processes over $100,000 in transactions since launching during a previous Buildathon.
A very essential factor in the success of the event and by extension the Buildathon can be associated with Charis, a talented community organizer and builder who has made significant contributions to the ecosystem.
