The much-anticipated Base Onchain Summer Workshop series is set to begin tomorrow, August 17, with a demo session in Nsukka, Enugu State. This marks the start of a series of workshops across different cities in Nigeria designed to spotlight innovation, encourage collaboration, and provide builders with the opportunity to scale their projects on Base.
The Enugu event will bring together developers, founders, and blockchain enthusiasts under one roof, with a clear focus: building miniapps. These are lightweight applications designed to integrate seamlessly into existing distribution channels such as Farcaster and the Base app. For participants, it is not just about experimenting with ideas but about creating functional products that can be launched, scaled, and adopted.
What sets this year’s Onchain Summer apart is the ₦300 million prize pool set aside for winning teams. In July 2025, several Nigerian teams proved their mettle in earlier Base buildathons, securing over $20,000 in funding and gaining access to the Base incubation program, where they pitched to renowned figures including Balaji Srinivasan. This year, the stakes are even higher, with $200,000 up for grabs and top teams standing a chance to walk away with $10,000 each.
Speaking ahead of the Nsukka demo, the organizers emphasized that the initiative is more than just a competition. It is about “bringing West Africa onchain” by giving local talent access to tools, mentorship, and distribution channels. With Base positioned as one of Ethereum’s largest scaling solutions—backed by Coinbase—participants will not only be building applications but also connecting with a wider ecosystem of venture capital, consultancy, and global exposure.
After Nsukka, the Onchain Summer Workshop will move to other cities including: Anambra (August 19), Port Harcourt (August 23), and Abuja (August 23). Each location is expected to draw strong participation, underscoring the growing momentum of blockchain adoption and developer activity in Nigeria.
The workshops are structured to highlight demos from participating teams, offering attendees the chance to see firsthand how innovative ideas are being transformed into usable products. From fintech miniapps to community-focused solutions, the diversity of projects reflects both the creativity and the practical problem-solving mindset of West African developers.
