The Ethereum Foundation has announced its first Ethereum Attack-a-thon, offering $1.5 million to ethical hackers who can identify vulnerabilities in the Ethereum protocol. Running from 25th November, 2024 to 20th January, 2025, this initiative is designed to strengthen the security of Ethereum, the backbone of DeFi, NFTs, and other blockchain applications.
Support for Bug Hunters
Immunefi, a leading Web3 bug bounty platform with over $110 million paid in rewards, will oversee the program. It will manage the review process and showcase achievements with a leaderboard, a findings report, bug fix reviews, and exclusive NFT awards. Also, Participants will work under ideal conditions for identifying flaws. They will receive direct project support, timely feedback, and rewards for duplicate discoveries. The program targets critical areas, including:
- Blockchain consensus mechanisms
- Network security
- Protocol and implementation compliance
- Cryptographic component security
The Attack-a-thon is also backed by industry giants such as Bybit, Uniswap, The Graph, Arbitrum Foundation, and more. These collaborations highlights a shared commitment to ensuring Ethereum’s security and reliability.
A Challenge For Security Researchers
The Ethereum Attack-a-thon offers researchers the chance to evaluate Ethereum’s core systems, from proof-of-stake protocols to peer-to-peer networks. With $1,273,356.10 in assets (ETH, GRC, and USDT) locked in the vault, the program ensures high stakes. Participants must, however, complete KYC requirements to join.
