Is Microsoft Considering Buying Bitcoin? Here’s What Michael Saylor Says

Michael Saylor, Bitcoin bull and MicroStrategy’s Chairman said in an X space hosted by VanEck that he agrees to make a three-minute presentation to Microsoft’s board of directors about investing in Bitcoin.

In his words, “The activist that put that proposal together contacted me to present to the board, and I agreed to provide a three-minute presentation — that’s all you’re allowed — and I’m going to present it to the board of directors.”

Saylor further said he had proposed to meet with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella earlier to discuss the topic, but the offer was not accepted. “So you will see me putting together the three-minute proposal for Microsoft […], and we’ll send it to the board,” he added.

In October 24, Microsoft had put out a filing, where it disclosed that a Blockchain Investment looked unlikely as they already evaluated a wide range of investable assets, including Bitcoin (BTC). It said it had accepted Bitcoin payments at its online Xbox store between 2014 and 2018 but right now the firm is more invested in artificial intelligence technology than blockchain.

Microsoft shareholders are set to vote on 10th December, 2024, whether the tech giant should publicly assess adding Bitcoin to its balance sheet, a filing with the United States securities regulator revealed. In the October 24 filing, Microsoft shared that “Assessment of Investing in Bitcoin” is proposed to certain shareholders who will vote in a Dec. 10 meeting. Even though the Microsoft board recommends voting against it.

Microsoft’s board of directors currently consists of 12 members, including high-ranking executives from The Walt Disney Company, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and GSK.
