Octant epoch 6 Octant epoch 6

Applications for Octant’s sixth funding epoch are officially live! If you are building open-source projects or working on public goods, this is your chance to secure public goods funding to take your initiative to the next level. The Allocation Window is set to run from November 18 to December 5, 2024. Octant is offering a structured process to help projects gain funding while encouraging collaboration within its community.

How to Apply for Public goods Funding

Securing public goods funding with Octant is a straightforward but detailed process. Here’s a breakdown to help you navigate the steps:

1. Join the Octant Discord

The Octant Discord server is where the action happens. Start by verifying your account in the _captcha_verification!_ channel, then introduce yourself in the Introductions section. This space is buzzing with ideas, feedback, and collaboration opportunities.

While joining Discord isn’t mandatory, it’s a great way to connect with the community and increase the visibility of your project. For those who prefer not to use Discord, there’s an alternative—email submissions can be sent to submissions@golem.foundation, but only after completing the official submission form.

2. Complete the Submission Form

The Octant Applications form is your gateway to eligibility. Fill it out with all the necessary details about your project—goals, funding breakdown, and milestones. Once submitted, reach out to Octant_Submissions on Discord to initiate the review process.

Pro tip: Check your privacy settings to ensure you can send direct messages. This step is critical, as it kicks off a one-on-one discussion about your application and helps align your project with Octant’s mission.

3. Formalize Your Proposal

Once your project passes the eligibility review, it’s time to make it public. Here’s what to do:

  • Create a post on Octant Discuss, following the proposal template.
  • Cross-post your proposal on Discord in the project-submissions forum with a short summary and a link to your Discuss post.
  • Engage with the community—this could mean hosting events, participating in discussions, or simply answering questions.

The more active you are, the more support you’re likely to get during the voting phase.

4. Finalize and Submit Project Information

All finalized project details must be submitted via the Project Information Submission form by December 10. These details will be displayed on the Octant App, showcasing your project to the community and voters.

For projects returning from previous epochs, there’s also an option to update your information and highlight your progress.

What Happens Next?

After submissions close on December 5, the community will vote from December 12 to December 17 to decide which projects move forward. Successful projects will enter the Allocation Window, running from January 11 to January 25, 2025.

Key Deadlines

Project Submissions and Eligibility Check: November 18 – December 5. Project Updates Deadline: December 10. Community Voting: December 12 – December 17.

Who Can Apply?

Octant is open to projects that:

  • Are public goods, meaning they’re free, accessible, and beneficial to everyone.
  • Commit to open-source principles, with transparent and accessible repositories.
  • Have clear, itemized budgets showing how the funds will be used.
  • Demonstrate progress or credibility through public endorsements, past achievements, or active participation in industry conversations.
  • Present a sustainability plan for continued growth after funding.

Projects must at least be at the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) stage and should clearly define the problem they’re solving and the innovative solution they’re offering. However, Octant does exclude projects like financial products, one-off charities, and those with unethical behavior or misconduct.

Why Octant?

Octant isn’t just a funding mechanism; it’s a community-driven platform that empowers builders with public goods funding to create impactful realities. Whether you’re an open-source developer or a public goods advocate, this is your chance to contribute to a decentralized, accessible future. Don’t miss the December 5 deadline—start your application today and let Octant help you bring your vision to life.
