Octant was recognized as Public Goods Funding Organization of the Year in the Ecosystem Category at the Borderless 3.0 earlier this month. Octant’s pioneering role in creating decentralized, participatory funding models has seen it drive sustainable public goods projects.

This report highlights some of the recent milestones achieved by Octant, including its collaboration with Borderless, major events like Devcon 2024, and initiatives such as the Epoch 5 Funding Rounds and Community Fund 2. These efforts have been pivotal to the evolution of a more inclusive and transparent public goods ecosystem.

In March 2024, the B<>rder/ess community entered the Octant Ecosystem in preparation for the Epoch 5 Grant Rounds. This significant step has created a more inclusive and participatory model for public goods funding, driven by Octant and powered by Golem’s native ERC-20 token, GLM.

Octant is a novel platform for participatory public goods funding experiments, centered on Golem’s native ERC-20 token, GLM.

From August 8th to 15th, 2024, the Octant App collaborated with Borderless to give away $1000 worth of GLM tokens. Members of the Borderless community were invited to write the best content about the Octant Ecosystem, with ten (10) winners selected based on the quality and creativity of their submissions.

Mrs. Karla Nweke, the founder of Borderless, also engaged her followers on social media by asking for suggestions on what people would like to see if she made a song about Octant. The Borderless and Octant communities came together to share their ideas in the comments, leading to the creation of a unique and impactful masterpiece.

On October 28, 2024, B<>rder/ess reached the final stage of the Octant App Epoch 5 Funding Rounds, with a funding pool of 322.6 ETH (over $800k). Borderless made it to the top 30 projects in this highly competitive round.

Borderless 3.0 was also proudly supported by @OctantApp, which had a booth showing participants what the app was about and how to stake their tokens.

Octant was also present at Devcon 2024 on November 15, 2024, where they took part in the Impact Spaces sessions during Days 3 & 4. During these sessions, the Head of Community, @vpabundance, @vijaymichalik, and others discussed key topics like “Degen Incentives For Regen Outcomes”, Public Goods Funding, and Streaming QF with @Superfluid_HQ.

As part of the event, there was a special mission for participants to earn an Octant SQF Voter NFT and get involved with the public goods funding co-op. More details can be found here.

The Octant Community Fund 2 is different from the Epoch Funding rounds. It is Octant’s growth funding program designed to help scale projects and improve engagement within the ecosystem. Applications for the Community Fund were open from November 4th to November 22nd, 2024, with a clear aim to:

  • Grow GLM Locking Initiatives and boost Epoch participation & governance engagement
  • Create attention-grabbing content to market Octant, improving visibility and awareness
  • Enhance Public Goods Collaboration with at least one major community partner in this round

Reviews and decisions for the applications will take place from November 23rd to December 9th, 2024.

The collaboration between Octant and Borderless is just the beginning of an exciting journey toward a more inclusive and transparent public goods funding ecosystem. As the initiatives continue to grow, there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved.
