Ethereum Localism is getting a major boost as Owocki, Gitcoin Co-founder, has announced funding allocations for community-driven participatory funding rounds during GG23 in March 2025. After reviewing applications and engaging with round operators, Owocki has selected five initiatives to receive $5,000 each in funding. The goal is to test and expand decentralized funding models in local communities using Ethereum-based infrastructure.

The selected rounds include:

  1. RefiMediterranean – Organized by Regen Avocado ($5k)
  2. Regen Rio De Janeiro – Led by Caue, Diogo, Athus, and Luisa ($5k)
  3. Regen Coordination – Managed by Monty ($5k)
  4. Web3 for Universities – Led by Karla and Ifeanyi ($5k)
  5. Neighborhood Software – Organized by Cabin ($5k)

Borderless Dev (Web3 for Universities) took to X to show gratitude. “@BorderlessDev got an extra $5k added to the pool by @owocki himself. This is super cool and we’re excited!

Thank you so much @gitcoin @owocki We’re super pumped about #GG23,” the team shared in response to the unexpected boost.

Ethereum Localism: A Decentralized Future for Civic Innovation

Ethereum Localism is the concept of using blockchain tools to support grassroots initiatives by enabling decentralized funding flows, fostering civic innovation, and promoting sustainable, community-led economic models. Instead of relying on traditional funding structures, these experiments allow communities to tap into Web3 infrastructure to access and manage capital transparently.

By launching these pilot rounds, the initiative aims to demonstrate how decentralized funding can support real-world development, laying the groundwork for a more autonomous, blockchain-powered approach to community-driven finance. If successful, these models could scale, inspiring more local projects to adopt Web3 methodologies for funding and governance

As GG23 approaches, all eyes will be on these experiments in Ethereum Localism to see how decentralized funding can reshape community-driven initiatives
